Pep Guardiola has credited his opponents with learning from Southampton boss Russell Martin as City beat 1-0 football sportnews.
“Today it wasn’t about how well they (Southampton) defended deep. It was about how well they played with the ball, with the goalkeeper and with their movement. It was a good game to learn from as a manager. I learned a lot from Russell (Martin) because they did a great job. We have to be humble and accept that they did a great job. In the last two games, Wolves and Southampton were at the bottom of the table. And that’s the level that shows how difficult the Premier League is. They played really well. They didn’t create many chances but they made an incredible effort to take the ball away from us. We created chances but didn’t score, but it was a good result.” UFABET
Pep Guardiola said:
“The build-up is excellent, they open up spaces. They link up with the forwards well and every moment makes sense. I know after people have spoken to me about Russell and we got a taste of it today. The players are not bad, they are good. When a team plays at that level you have to accept it.”
“The important thing is to be there, we created chances. Erling (Haaland) had two or three clear chances but I’m not worried. The important thing is now we have 23 points.”
“Most teams play deep. Now we play Spurs, Bournemouth and Brighton and they don’t play deep. So now we have to adapt. But there have been a lot of deep defenders in recent times. We create spaces to create chances. Savinho played very well today.”
“Now we have two or three days off. We are used to playing every three or four days in 11 months. The problem is that we cannot rest some players. But hopefully sooner or later we will rest some players and some will come back.”
